Christmas 2013

This year for Christmas we started the holiday  at the Bailey's.  We had a great time with all the family.  We then headed over to the Oliverson's on Christmas day

Midnight

This cute little kitten showed up at our neighbors house and they didn't want to keep it so I brought it home.  He is cute and friendly.  The kids love him.  He melted my hear too.

Wreck it Ralph

I usually don't dress up for Halloween, but this year we dressed  up as a family.

Hospital Stay

The test results came back Tuesday afternoon.  She tested positive for MRSA in her blood, joint fluid, and bone.  They needed to get her on antibiotics.  The  infection tested sensitive for clindomycine. She was on a IV  antibiotic until Saturday morning.  The  infectious team determined an oral would work good, if she would take the meds.  It is very very gross  smelling and the taste is nasty.  Most  kids won't take it.  If she didn't, they would put a pic line in.  Whitters had no problems taking the meds.  We are so happy and blessed that Whitney doesn't have to have a pic line.  She is on antibiotics for about  6 weeks and every 8 hours.  Right now her schedule is 6:30 am 2:30 pm and 10:30 pm.

My mom had Brayden and Haddie for the week.  Brayden and Haddie both got strep while they were there.  I missed my kids.  I felt so helpless.  I couldn't do anything for Whit and I couldn't help Brayden or Haddie.   Thankfully my mom was great with them.  `

Whit was put in an immobilizer brace so she couldn't bend her knee.  We had to be creative how to entertain.  She loved being in the corner next to the window.. It became her own little space.

The hospital has "Kids Krew"  they brought different activities.  Paints where Whitters favorites.
On Friday, they had Physical Therapy come to help Whit walk around.  She was so excited to get out.  We had to make her stop because she just wanted to walk up and down the stairs.
Don't look at the last picture if you have a weak stomach.  This is just for my knowledge.
4 Days after Surgery

The "Bone Infection"

Thursday in the middle of the night, Whitney woke up and was grabbing her knee and crying.  She did that a few more times in the night but woke up Friday morning running around and playing.  I wondered if she was dreaming or even had leg cramps.  Friday night she was running a low fever.  I didn't think much of it.  Saturday off and on she wouldn't walk on her right knee but then would take off running.  Sunday early afternoon she wouldn't straighten her leg or put any pressure on it.  Her fever spiked up and she was in a lot of pain.  She would just cry and whine all day long, even in her sleep.  So I took her to the pediatrician Monday morning.  Her fever was up around 102 and she was in pain.  I had Brayden with me because he had started to run a fever Sunday night  too.  The dr thought she had a joint infection and gave me an antibiotic and told me to get in touch with Shriner's. (Her orthopedic dr)  and Brayden had Strep.

We went to get the meds and go home.  I went to get the prescriptions filled at the drive thru cuz I wasn't sure how I was going to take a sick boy, a 5 year old could wouldn't walk, and a baby into the store.  I ended up sitting in the drive thru for 45 mins.  with 3 kids crying in the back I was going to loose it.  I called Shriner's while I was waiting.  They told me they couldn't get me in, but my care coordinater would talk to the dr and see what she wanted me to do.  She called me back about 20 min later and said the dr wanted me to go to Primary's ER.  I really  didn't want to so I  told her I would talk to my pediatrician and see.  She called me back about 30 mins later and again told me to go to Primary's ER.  She told me if it is a joint infection it could cause permanent damage.  Patrick was at work and I had things I had to do that day so I put it off.  The dr called me back and once again told me I needed to be in Primary's ER now.  We finally decided we needed to go down.  My mom came and stayed with Brayden and Haddie.    We didn't get on the road until after 6.  We to the ER and back to a room at about 8 pm.  We were tired and frustrated because we didn't even see a nurse for over an hour.  Finally we started to get some help.  First they got an IV started.  On the first try!  They ran blood work but they didn't want her to eat anything.  So they checked to make sure she didn't have an ear infection, strep, or uti.  I was pretty frustrated because I wasn't sure why an ear infection would cause joint pain. They decided to an ultrasound of her knee.  The poor girl was so tired and was drifting in and out.  They did the ultrasound of her knee and didn't find anything abnormal.  But the ortho dr wanted to see if he could drain any fluid from her knee.  They gave her some anesthesia and tried to get fluid out.  They were only able to get out a little so they sent it off to be tested.  They still didn't know what was causing her pain.  All the test result came back normal but they knew she had an infection somewhere.  They finally decided to admit us but we didn't get back a room until after3 am.  They  couldn't get her in for an x-ray or MRI until morning so  we got to sleep about 4 and x-ray got her in about 7.The ortho dr didn't think the x-ray  would show anything so Whit was scheduled for an MRI about 11.  Whitney was so brave and strong.  They physically straighten her leg for the x-ray and she just went with it.  The poor girl still couldn't have anything to eat and she had not had anything since 5 the night before.  They didn't call us for the MRI until noon and didn't get her back until close to 1.  I lost it.  I was so frustrated.  This was a 5 year old little girl would couldn't eat anything and was in pain, but they would doing nothing to help her.  I was about ready to  pick  her up and take her somewhere else.  There was a dr in Ogden I was going to take her to.  They had no answers and just keep trying something else.  I felt like they had no idea was they were going to do next.  Durning Whits MRI, we went to get us some lunch.  We hadn't eaten since the night before.  When we went back to the room and waited for Whit.  The ortho came in and told us they had an answer.  Whitney had an infection in her bone.  She needed surgery right away so the get the infection out.  They wheeled Whit back into the room and about 10 minutes later they wheeled her back for surgery.  The surgery took about 45 minutes.  They said they were able to drain all the fluid from her knee  and remove the synovial.  They also had to drill into  the bone so the infection can drain.  She did great. When were where able to take her back to the room she was finally able to get some food and get some sleep.

Our new family member

After years of looking and being disappointed.  I was finally able to get a piano.  I found a lady who was selling her mother's here in Tremonton.  I'm no pianist but Brayden started lessons this school year and is loving it.  I love being able to sit down and work on a song any day.  Now if I could just  practice without Haddie on my  lap maybe I could be better.  Haddie LOVES to play the piano but had discovered its only fun if you are sitting up high.

Whitney's First Day of School

Sept 3rd 2013 Whitney is all ready for her first Day of School.  Last year of Preschool at Corrine.  Such a big girl.

She's a walker

Patrick got back from traveling for two weeks on Aug 29th.  He got a boil on his lower stomach.  He  gets boils often, but this was big and painful.  On Wednesday it was getting bigger and very sore.  He went to the doctor and he put him  on the antibiotics and told him to watch it.  On Friday he went back because it was bigger.  They received the results back as MRSA.  They put him on IV antibiotics every 8 hours until Monday.  It was a LONG weekend. His treatments were at 6 am 2 pm and 10 pm.  The antibiotic they used is very strong and hard on the veins so almost every time they had to put in in a new IV.  He was gone for about 2 1/2 -3 hours each time.  It seemed every time he went in there was a problem and he would be gone longer.  They couldn't get the IV, they had to  up the meds,  and so on...  It if was going to be longer than the weekend they were going to  do a pic line.  I was frustrated and had a really hard time whenever he left.  I didn't like being away from him while he was in pain.  It hit me to the core.  Sadly, I wasn't much support for him.  We had planned to go away on Monday for our anniversary.  I decided it was the perfect time to use my faith.  I prayed... like I had never prayed.  But it was different I prayed with knowledge that  I was being heard.  I got up and got everything ready for us to go on Monday hoping the dr would release him. I packed the bags and mowed the lawn.   I had let so many "things" in my life that I had forgotten the important things.
On Monday we went back to the dr and he was very happy with the result and was able to switch him  to oral antibiotics for  the next 4 weeks.  The bump stayed for over a month.  We are watching very careful to make sure it doesn't happen again.  The dr kept telling us that it doesn't live on things (door knobs and shopping carts) so as long as we are careful when cleaning it, it shouldn't be contagious.

Haddie is such a happy girl.  She loves to  play with her brother and sister.  She loves to play with balls and stacking cups.  She weighs about 16 lbs.  She is a little attached to her mommy and daddy. Haddie joined the world of walking on Aug 21.   We are so proud of her!

First Day of First Grade

Aug 27th 2013 Brayden is growing up so fast.  The first day of school for first grade.  This year he has Mrs. Stuart's class.  He is excited to go 'all day' to school.  We talked about how he was going to eat lunch at school.  He thinks it is pretty cool to eat at school.  The first morning he told me he didn't need to eat breakfast because he was old enough to eat at school.

Yup that is us running to the bus on the first day  of school.  (the bus was about 10 minutes  earlier than we were told)

Best Mother award

I was playing a game with Brayden and we were having lots of fun.  So I said "who's the best mom"  without he think about it he looks at me and says "Your Mom!!"  I do have an awesome mom.  The kids love getting to see her.  Whitney jumps up and down and runs to her arms.  Brayden asks over and over when do we get to see her again.  As we are pulling out of their driveway he is saying "I miss my grandma"  We LOVE YOU MOM!

When Daddy's away the kids will play!

While Patrick was traveling for work this summer, we spent a week in Idaho to play with the cousins.  Brayden begs to go play with "his cousins"

The boys build a water tower

One night we went out to the Dam and had dutch oven dinner and played in the water.

Brayden watched 'Sadie' (Kenna's dog ) swim in the lake.  He kept saying...  Mom that dog can swim, it must be a dog-fish"
Whitney wasn't quiet sure about getting in but loved to watch the other kids swim and fish

The kids got bored in the car so they decided to paint Haddies face.  Brayden says she looks like a Knight.  She thought it was great.

Gymnastics

This summer Brayden and Whitney took gymnastics again.  They love going to class.
Whitney had a mommy and me dance and gym class.  It is a workout for me.  We run around and jump up and down.  It is great physical therapy for her and she loves it.

Brayden had an all boys tumble class with the wonderful Mrs. Talauna as his teacher.
